Alfa Stelvio AWD Brake Pad Replacement Guide

  1. Put your Alfa Stelvio into “Service mode”:
  2. Press MENU on the center console
  3. Choose “Settings,” then “Driver assistance”
  4. Set “Auto park brake” to “Off”
  5. Choose “Brake service,” then “Yes”
  6. You should receive a message that says “Parking brake retracted.” If you don’t, try releasing your parking brake before repeating step 1d.
  7. Raise your car, then undo the 17-mm wheel bolts and the locking wheel bolt. Remove the wheel.
  8. Unplug the brake pad sensor, release the electrical conduit, and remove the brake pad retaining spring.
  9. Remove the two 3-mm Allen bolts holding the cover plate in place.
  10. Remove the two 7-mm Allen bolts (under dust caps) holding the brake caliper. Keep the caliper out of the way by temporarily tying it to the rear spring with a zip-tie.
  11. Remove the 2 E18 bolts to the caliper carrier.
  12. Remove the 5-mm Allen brake disc locating screw. Remove the disc. Clean any corrosion you see.
  13. Apply lubricant where brake pads make physical contact with the caliper housing. When slotting the caliper and new brake pads back into the carrier make sure the brake pad sensor wire is on the correct side and facing inwards, towards the car.

Important note: Don’t get lubricant on the friction side of the brake pad. This will prevent

them from working.

  1. Complete re-assembly, then reset the menu display by pressing the brake pedal and activating the parking brake.
  2. Test your brakes at a low speed.

Congratulations! You’ve succeeded in replacing brake pads on an Alfa Stelvio AWD.
